Observations from Valley Falls
Soft pink and buttery yellow hues push up through the loamy moist soil of the forest. The texture of this mushroom cap has an almost velvet like appearance that contrasts with a smooth white shaft. This one has been munched a little, exposing the gills. Finding an abundance of pink russula mushrooms near the trail at Valley Falls, West Virginia was thrilling. It still shocks me that nature displays such a vast rainbow.
